Adopt A Village is a non-profit corporation
with headquarters in the Tampa, Florida area. We also
have offices in Afife, Ghana, which is in the lower
Volta region of Ghana. Afife also represents the first
village adopted. It is in a very impoverished area that
has been bound by centuries of superstition and idol
worship. Even today a form of ritual slavery exists
called Trokosi. A witch doctor or juju priest can tell
a family that the gods are angry and their only hope
is to give their daughter to the gods. This
means give her to the priest, who will use her as his
personal slave. Since families are afraid there is no
hope for these girls. Adopt A Village will be building
orphanages and schools to offer these girls hope as
well as transform the villages through the power and
love of Christ.
Our goal is to create a community built around
THE CHURCH which meets the spiritual, physical,
and economic needs of the people. In most third world
villages there is little opportunity for young people
to have any hope for a future. Consequently, many migrate
to the larger cities and often get involved in crime,
drugs, alcohol, and aids. We believe that the local
churches can unite in prayer and service to meet the
needs of their village if they receive training, counseling,
and funding. Adopt A Village will work with village
churches and involve churches, businesses, other ministries,
and individuals to transform villages one by one. The
church, as described in the New Testament was to preach
the kingdom of God, heal the sick, cast out evil spirits,
but also to take care of the orphans and widows. We
believe that by building churches with space to care
for orphans and elderly with no family, we can enable
churches in Ghana and other countries in the future
to address the tremendous shortage of housing for the
millions of orphans around the world. We need to assist
each community to provide for their own needs. Villages
do not have the skills, facilities, or the funds to
address their problems. Our goal with the help of others
is to empower a village to be able to do it themselves
and begin to help other villages.
OUR STRATEGIC PLAN:
Our name communicates our strategy.
An adoptive parent seeks to develop the body, soul,
and spirit of the child they adopt. Likewise, Adopt
A Village seeks to address the spiritual, physical,
and economic needs of each village adopted. Just like
a parent, we will communicate and empower, as the goal
is always to aid in the development until they are well
adjusted and able to successfully care for themselves.
Adopt A Village seeks to partner with
churches, businesses, organizations, foundations, small
groups, and individuals who want to make a significant
difference in the world in which we live. We also are
partnering with other ministries that complement our
goals. This enables us to avoid duplication and be more
productive and cost effective with Kingdom funds.
I. Spiritual Transformation
A. Prayer - In order to be adopted,
the pastors of a village must join together and begin
to fast and pray. They are to ask leaders in business
and government to join in bringing unity and transformation
to their village.
B. Pastor Training - Many pastors
lack formal biblical training and Adopt A Village
will provide bible and seminary training to pastors.
We will also offer leadership training and provide
materials to aid them. We are partnering with Life
Christian University in this effort.
C. Crusades and Special Events -
Adopt A Village will coordinate crusades, youth events,
and various workshops to help spread the gospel.
D. Discipleship Training - In cooperation
with Operation
Lightforce, we will utilize radio, internet,
and written materials to grow biblical disciples starting
with the 40 Day Revolution and 40 Days to Transformation
which develops an agape lifestyle.
E. Mission Trips - Adopt A Village
will coordinate mission trips from churches, businesses
and individuals to develop relationships and aid in
the spiritual growth
II. Physical Transformation
Each village is unique and has its’ own needs,
and these needs will vary from village to village. It
is our intention to work closely to meet all the needs
that can possibly be met.
A. Water - Good drinking water is
not available in many small villages, and we will
address this problem.
B. Medical Care
1.
Clinics – do free clinics in churches
2.
Physicians – supplement income
to secure doctors for villages (Government only pays
$200/ month; so most doctors leave Ghana or stay in
more affluent cities.)
3.
Medicines – work with pharmaceutical
companies to get free or at greatly reduced prices
as most cannot afford to pay
4.
Consultation with US doctors –
We will setup internet connections with U. S. doctors
to aid in diagnosis and treatment
C. Education
1.
Elementary and secondary schools –
Adopt A Village will work to begin to add schools
needed and provide aid to those who cannot afford
to pay for school.
2.
Adult literacy classes – Only
35% to 4% of adults now can read or write in Ghana,
and we can teach an adult to read and write in sixteen
weeks for $20.
3.
Health and Hygiene – Many diseases
could be eliminated by teaching and enabling the people
to practice clean and healthy habits in food care
and preparation as well as using mosquito screens
and hand washing.
4.
Orphanage – Due to Aids, ritual
slavery, and other reasons there are great multitudes
of orphans in Africa. Adopt A Village plans to address
this through building churches that have facilities
to house orphans as well as functions as a school
vocational training center, and community center.
We plan to work with ICM
in construction.
III. Economic Transformation
A. Vocational Training - Most people
desire to work but lack skills, training, or funding
to start. We will offer the training. This is an area
that anyone, particularly retirees, can come to Ghana
for a period to share their talents and teach what
they know.
B. Christian Credit Union - We will
lend money through local churches at no interest to
fund small business ventures for those who have had
financial and vocational training. This will be facilitated
by Solid
Rock Financial Group
C. Financial Training - We will offer,
“God’s Financial Plan for Your Life”
and counselor training through the Shield Foundation.
This will teach people the proper way to view and
handle money.
D. Fund small business ventures through partnerships
Many opportunities provide themselves in developing
countries and we will work to develop US partners
for enterprising Christians who will give a portion
of their profits to Kingdom work.
E. Coaching in Business - Train
as they grow to become good businessmen.
F. Form Co-Ops and Aid in Marketing
- As more people are trained and empowered, we will
help market the goods they produce locally, regionally,
and worldwide. Markets
Unlocked has agreed to offer free access
to their business to business marketing program and
we will also offer our own website.
G. Business Trips to Ghana - Adopt
A Village plans to host trips for business men and
women to visit current and prospective adopted villages
to share skills, guidance, marketplace ministry, and
also view potential investment opportunities in Ghana.
